This USB to Serial RS232 Adapter with FTDI (1-Port) converts an available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port into an RS232 null modem serial DB9 port, solving DCE/DTE conflicts directly, without requiring additional cross-wired serial cables or adapters. Extremely Versatile Suited for several industries, this DB9 serial adapter is perfect for IT Administrators looking to add legacy functionality to newer notebooks, PCs and servers that lack an integrated RS232 port. It is also ideal for connecting and programing LED and digital signage boards with serial communication ports, as well as bar code scanners, receipt printers and other POS devices. The integrated FTDI chipset supports additional customization, advanced features, and compatibility not necessarily offered by other solutions. Compatible with a Variety of Systems The USB to RS232 serial adapter is compatible with a broad list of operating systems including Windows, Windows CE, Mac OS and Linux, making it easier to integrate into mixed environments. This serial converter is backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.
No size description There is no mention as to what size the cable is. Size is mentioned in the questions, but they claim it’s 6 feet long. This is NOT 6 feet long. More like 17 inches long.I gave this a 3 star because of the lack of length in the description. To darn expensive for a 17 inch long cable. There are others out there for the same price but are 6 feet long.
Connects RS-232 DTE device to PC USB port You need this if you want to connect a device with an RS-232 port configured as DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) to a computer with only USB ports. Because the computer is also configured as DTE, you need the null modem feature that this cable provides. In addition, the COM port emulation uses the very desirable FTDI chip set, which, I have found from experience, works well without issues.Note: if your device (from a reputable manufacturer) has a male connector (either DB-9 m or DB-25 m), it’s a good sign that it is DTE.
