Router versus Wi-Fi

The router moves traffic between your home network and the internet, while its wireless radios create Wi-Fi. A router can have enough routing capacity yet still provide poor coverage from a bad location.

Mesh

Mesh systems add coordinated access points. Place wireless nodes where they still have a strong backhaul, not directly in the deepest dead zone. Ethernet backhaul is ideal where available.

Security

Keep firmware current, use strong administrator credentials, and retire unsupported hardware. Software support matters as much as peak radio speed.
